Preventative maintenance can add years to your Metalscan Analoy spectrometer and will help it to perform accurately.  FST will be happy to assist you with any questions you may have and can provide all your consumable needs. Reminders for Metalscan 1625/1650 Users

  • Keep a 2mm gap between the point of the electrode and the surrounding cup
  • Make sure the test sample does not contact the base plate
  • Keep the electrode clean with a stainless steel wire brush
  • Keep the electrode sharp
  • The electrode should be removed and resurfaced after 40 burns or when the test material composition is significantly changed
  • Resurface the electrodes to a 45 degree angle  using a lathe or a stationary disc sander with fine sandpaper
  • Clean the optical window frequently with a cotton swab
  • Exchange the entrance window when contamination can no longer be removed
  • Change the cabinet filters often, especially in warm conditions to avoid overheating
  • Periodically check the cabinet fan and probe fan for operation
  • Have defective cooling fans changed promptly to avoid component damage
  • Keep the printer mechanism clean by using compressed air to remove debris
  • Test printer operation by depressing the printer feed button, while turning the power button on.  A test strip will automatically print
  • Model 1650 users, optimize your hard drive regularly for maximum speed and operation and rename the Mtlscan.log analysis result file in the root directory of the hard drive. Call FST if you need more information.
  • Model 1625 users should store the floppy disk backup in a safe location in case the unit requires reloading of the operating software.

FST would like to keep your Arun Technology Metalscan spectrometer operating in prime condition.  With warm weather it is especially important to take some extra time and follow these suggestions.      



Reminders for Metalscan 2000/2500 Users

  • Periodically check your cabinet fans for operation.  Defective cooling fans should be replaced promptly to prevent component damage. 
  • Replace your cabinet filters often.
  • Keep the spark chamber and the argon exhaust circuit clean. A plugged exhaust line will cause poor analytical results and could cause water to siphon into the spark chamber.  
  • Based on the average use, it is recommended that the entrance window on the M2000 and M2500 be replaced annually. 
  • The M2000 entrance slit requires cleaning by a factory authorized service representative.  Failure to maintain the entrance window slit can result in a loss of analytical performance.  
  • Model 2000/2500 users, optimize your hard drive regularly for provide maximum speed and operation. Rename the Mtlscan.log analysis result file in the root directory of the hard drive. Call  FST for more details.
